March 27, 2017

DALBAR, Inc. (, the financial community’s leading independent expert for evaluating, auditing and rating business practices, customer performance, product quality and service recently recognized ICMA-RC’s mobile app in their Second Semester 2016 Mobile InSIGHT report.DALBAR's Mobile InSIGHT analyzed 41 financial services firms' offerings and recognized pacesetters whose mobile applications have led them to a higher, more continuous level of visibility.

The DALBAR report states that "Gone are the days of the traditional game of ‘Keeping up with the Joneses'; the game is now about the New and Different. It is about pioneering creative methods of interacting with customers." The report goes on to say that "Mobile technology has evolved from a mere novelty into an absolute necessity for most North Americans. Software meant exclusively for mobile use (commonly referred to as "apps") has inarguably played an extensive role in the overwhelming adoption of mobile technology."

ICMA-RC's mobile app received a 4-star rating out of 5 and was recognized for two innovative components to the ICMA-RC mobile app experience: the "Your Future Animated" personalized video tool that allows users to see what their future may look like in retirement and an in-app virtual reality video featuring moments in the day of three public sector employees. The ICMA-RC app also was recognized as a pacesetter in the categories of discoverability, branding, and engagement.

Putting mobile education and information within participants' reach is a key focus for ICMA-RC, as it is critical to effectively serving public sector employees. "Based on year-end 2016 data we identified that 65 percent of those we serve in the public sector have occupations where they are away from their desks," said Gregory Dyson, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of ICMA-RC. "Public sector occupations such as public safety, public works, parks and recreation, and others spend most of their time on location, serving their communities. The emphasis on field work makes strong mobile solutions critical for success in helping public sector employees save toward a secure retirement."
